Graduating in 1995, Chad, who was often known as “Chuck” to his friends, was a three-sport athlete participating in baseball, football and wrestling. He was a two-time baseball letter earner, a three-time letter earner in football and also earned all-conference and all-metro honorable mention football recognition in 1994.
In wrestling, his career record was 153 wins and 58 losses and he was a six-year varsity wrestling letter earner. He was awarded all-conference in 1993, 1994 and 1995 and was recognized as an academic all- state student-athlete and the MN Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar of the Year in 1995. He was the Region 4A runner up in 1992, two-time Region 4A champion in 1994 and 1995 and was a three-time state wrestling tournament qualifier placing third in the state in 1995. Chad was chosen as the Lions Club Senior Athlete of the Year in 1995. Chad was lucky during high school to have his Dad Byron as not only one of his wrestling coaches but also as his Athletic Director.
After high school Chad stayed in Minnesota and attended Augsburg College where he was a three-time letter earner in both wrestling and football, an academic all-American in wrestling and a three-time academic club member in both wrestling and football. He earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education and health from Augsburg and later a Masters in Physical Education Pedagogy from Minnesota State University Mankato.
After college, Chad became a teacher and coach first in Monticello then in Richfield before coming back home to Farmington when he was hired in 2010 to serve as our Varsity Wrestling Coach, a position he held until 2023. He was chosen as the MN Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2015 and led Farmington to region championships in 2015 and 2016. His career wrestling coaching record stands at 165-160. And look for Chad on the sidelines tonight since he also serves as one of our assistant Varsity football coaches.
Additionally, Chad has been a wrestling coach for Dakota County Technical College, a team coach for the Cadet National Wrestling Team and works closely with all things youth wrestling in Farmington. He helped organize the Farmington Wrestling Booster Club and helped support numerous fundraising efforts benefiting Farmington youth programs.
