Jessica Matthees Kurth, a 1996 graduate of Farmington High School, is remembered as one of the most versatile and accomplished student-athletes in school history. Named FHS Athlete of the Year and recipient of the prestigious Athena Award in 1996, Jessica excelled in three varsity sports while also distinguishing herself in academics and leadership.
In softball, Jessica was a four-year starter at shortstop and two-year captain. She earned All-State Honorable Mention, All-Conference, and was a two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention selection. A consistent offensive force, she led the Tigers in hitting during both her junior and senior seasons.
On the basketball court, Jessica was a three-year letter winner and two-year captain. She earned All-Conference honors twice, scoring more than 650 career points while averaging over 13 points per game.
As a standout in volleyball, she was a two-year letter winner, team captain, and two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, playing a key role as a strong outside hitter.
Beyond athletics, Jessica’s impact at Farmington was far-reaching. She was a dedicated member of Student Council for four years, a National Honor Society member, and graduated third in her class with over a 4.0 GPA. She represented Farmington at Girls State, was FHS’s nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, and trained in dance for 14 years outside of school.
After graduation, Jessica attended the University of St. Thomas, where she played softball for four years and earned her degree with honors. She later gave back to the game she loved, serving as a high school softball coach for five years.
Jessica Matthees Kurth’s excellence as a multi-sport athlete, leader, and scholar has left a lasting mark on Farmington High School, and her induction into the Farmington High School Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to her remarkable legacy.
